This book is an encounter – many encounters – with people who have had cancer, or who have it now. It also presents some of Norway’s foremost cancer experts. One out of three Norwegians will be diagnosed with cancer in the course of his or her life.

Both research and treatment have made such great strides that most cancer patients today survive the disease. Yet life after cancer entails numerous and serious challenges for both survivors and their loved ones. Cancer changes the lives of those affected, and many ask: “Why me?”

This book about cancer in Norway examines the disease from a number of medical and personal vantage points.

Among the contributors are Thorvald Steen, Finn Skårderud, Anne Lise Ryel, Frøydis Landmark, and Einar Øverenget, as well as Øyvind S. Bruland and Knut Olav Åmås, the editors.

Gøril Wiker and Lena Fauske have interviewed five people who have had cancer or who have lost a loved one to cancer. These are powerful narratives – about living.
